ode to woodford

as much as i love my woodford

my dog

not the bourbon

no, i love the bourbon too

but right now i want to talk about the hairy one

not the hair of the dog, though

this is getting confusing.

pictures, shall we?

this is the baby

and i love him to pieces

i just wish he loved me as much as he loves his daddy

i realize i should just get some legit plastic to cover my couch and call it a day...and you can call me memaw
seriously

woodford never fawns over me like this

i feel like i'm not invited to the all boys club

these two get to hang out all the time together

and would rather me just go shopping so they can do their own thing.

whatever boys...

without me who would make you biscuits???

and cookies???

ok, so the cookies were for me to console myself...but don't act like you didn't eat one...BILL

and don't act like i didn't let you lick the peanut butter spoon...WOODFORD!

if you're not feeling the love right now

or it's snowy/rainy out

you should totally make these cookies that popped up while pinteresting

they are delicious.

and the perfect way to bribe your wonderful husband to watch a marathon of justified on amazon instant prime over the ncaa tournament

unfortunately, there is no way to guilt your dog into cuddling with you

unless you lay in his favorite spot and he decides it's acceptable to plop down on top of you.

christmas for the dogs

i baked last night

but i was able to restrain from licking the bowl

even though these are completely edible for humans

i had four legged friends in mind while baking

if you have doggy loved ones in your life, consider making them a special treat this holiday season

they're easy to whip up

the contain basic ingredients - no funny by products like store bought treats

and if you mess up the recipe - your recipients, if they're like woodford, will still probably eat your creation.

this recipe is from thekitchn.com

preheat oven to 350 degrees

combine
1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
1/2 cups wheat germ  (i used a flax cereal blend i already had on hand - ground flax, oats, etc will
work too- but you may need to adjust your moisture levels)
1/2 cups melted bacon fat  (go ahead...make some bacon for breakfast this morning and make dog treats tonight!)
1 egg
1/2 cups cold water

knead by hand to really get everything mixed well

roll out on a floured surface to just about 1/2" thickness

then you can slice these in square shapes or use a cookie cutter - i found my bone shaped cookie cutter at meijers in the small kitchen appliances section

i poked my cookies with a fork to give them more of a bakery look

bake for 20 minutes until light brown

turn off oven and flip cookies - let cool in oven to help crisp them up

I was able to make 19 bones and one weird shape (woodford's taste tester)

and since these were meant for my work friends' doggies

i made some gift tags with some cardstock and ribbon

and let everyone know woodford helped

then packaged them in some clear/cellophaney tissue paper i found at the dollar general store.

merry roughmes!

holiday baking

was feeling festive last night

and made icebox cookies

per this recipe

i realize these say "coin cookies" in the title

but they were almost too small - like you could just eat the whole batch yourself small.

and that could have happened except that i froze 3/4 of my cookies.

if you want an easy cookie recipe to make ahead of time this is it - i also discovered that rolling the cookie logs on parchment paper make for a more even log

i also think the "using floss as a cookie cutter" trick would work better in this instance - instead of cookie coins i had cookie footballs.

a few more treats on my list for making this season include:

Oreo Cookie Bark

uhm.  hello.  white chocolate +oreos = easy and delicious.  i'm also dreaming up a peanut butter chip+inside out oreo version.  lookout world.

Ginger Cookies

Recipe photo
one of my favorite cookies since it's light on the sweet and big on the taste - this version is a but chewier than a gingersnap -

and probably pairs great with:

Gingersnap Dip

Gingersnap Dip Recipe
i made this dip a few weeks ago for the bourbon party and it was delicious - except for the fact that i would buy smaller cookies/graham crackers for dipping - eating a few whole cookies is a bit much.  but if i made the above cookie, or a traditional gingersnap cookie - i could shape them smaller in a stick shape - perfect for dipping.

lastly

this one's not for eating

but i really want the house to smell delicious

and i think bill would like to help me make some

cinnamon ornaments

i need to find some cheap dollar store cinnamon though.  there's no way i'm using my expensive cinnamon for this.

i thought these would be cute hung in our tree and tied onto gifts this year - don't you think?

ok so who's up for happy hour and pre-gaming friday tonight?  i need a break from year end.
